Art Inspirations Part 8: Lorelay Bove

Growing up one of my favorite children's books to read are stories from Little Golden Books. I was always captivated by the illustration on the cover of the book. Not to mention, as I got older, I would always find myself listening to Disney's Legacy Soundtrack albums — Pocohantas, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and many more. And I have to say, I have fallen in love with the artist who illustrated the cover of these albums and books.

Lorelay Bove is a visual development artist and designer who was based in Spain. When Lorelay turned 14 years old, she moved to Los Angeles with her family. Lorelay graduated from CalArts and is known for her works on the Little Golden Books (Toy Story, Princess and the Frog, and Wreck-It-Ralph), the Disney Legacy Soundtrack Albumn as well as working as the lead visual development artist for Wreck-It-Ralph's Sugar Rush.

Looking at Lorelay's work, her illustrations are similar to Mary Blair's art style like illuminating a dreamy effect on her work, creating intense contrasts,  as well as the use of gouache in creating a swirling effect.

That being said, Lorelay's art style is also distinctive on its own by bringing the story-telling to life via the movements of the characters through the use of fluid lines, adding detailed textures, rich vivid colors, and abstract shapes.

Overall, Lorelay is another one of my favorite artists who inspires me within the animation industry, bringing life to the characters and stories we love.
